Misuse of prescription pain medications remains a major public health problem - but programs to prevent it may be underused, according to a study in the July issue of the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs.

Jennerex, Inc., a clinical-stage cancer biotherapeutics company, today reported positive results from its Phase 1 dose escalation study evaluating the intravenous administration of JX-594 to patients with metastatic cancer. The data presented today demonstrated clear dose-related delivery to solid tumors, cancer-targeted replication and gene expression, and anti-cancer effects of JX-594 delivered IV.

Use of bisphosphonates associated with risk of developing BON after dental surgery: Study

People undergoing bisphosphonate therapy to prevent or treat osteoporosis (a thinning of the bones) may be unfamiliar with the drug and possible adverse side effects on oral health, according to a study in the May issue of The Journal of the American Dental Association.

Omalizumab fast, safe and well-tolerated in teens and adults with chronic spontaneous urticaria

An international team of researchers has found that a once-a-month, high-dose injection of a commonly used asthma drug is highly effective in treating teens and adults chronically afflicted with hives and severe, itchy rash. The drug, omalizumab, was tested on 323 people at 55 medical centers for whom standard antihistamine therapy failed to quell their underlying, allergy-like reaction, known as chronic idiopathic urticaria or chronic spontaneous urticaria.

Young cancer survivors have higher risk of pregnancy associated heart failure, shows study

Girls who survive cancer have a higher risk of developing a deadly heart disease when pregnant later in life, according to a study presented today at Heart Failure 2018 and the World Congress on Acute Heart Failure, a European Society of Cardiology congress.
