Researchers discover new biomarker that puts patients at higher risk for metastasis of uveal melanoma

A study by J. William Harbour, M.D., associate director for Basic Research and leader of the Eye Cancer Site Disease Group at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and colleagues published today in Clinical Cancer Research details the discovery of a biomarker that puts patients at a higher risk for metastasis of uveal melanoma.

U.S. DOD grant to study vigabatrin in combination with opiates to manage pain

Catalyst Pharmaceutical Partners, Inc. today reported that a team of neuroscientists at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System (LIJ) has received a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) to conduct an animal study of the use of vigabatrin in combination with opiates to effectively manage pain while reducing the potential for opiate addiction.

CytRx Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company specializing in oncology, today announced the initiation of a Phase 1b clinical trial to determine the maximum tolerated dose and to evaluate preliminary efficacy of aldoxorubicin (formerly INNO-206) administered in combination with the commonly used chemotherapeutic agent doxorubicin in patients with advanced solid tumors who have failed other therapies.
