BioMS Medical Corp. today reported that Spectral Diagnostics has received Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Toraymyxin(TM). Spectral Diagnostics and BioMS have entered into a services agreement whereby BioMS will assist Spectral, as required, in its commercialization of Toraymyxin(TM), a therapeutic hemoperfusion device for the treatment of severe sepsis. This approval permits Spectral to initiate its planned pivotal trial for Toraymyxin(TM) in the United States.
The Palm Beach Post, on the growth of concierge medicine: "As health reform prepares to send another 32 million people into the already stressed health system, some say that concierge medicine is the future — where the wealthy see the best primary care doctors in a luxury setting, and everyone else makes do with clinics staffed by 'physician extenders' such as nurse practitioners.
Medical device company Vertos Medical, Inc. has announced the release of additional patient outcomes data from the MiDAS I trial, a prospective, 75-patient study of mild for the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis. As presented at the Florida Society of Interventional Pain Physicians Annual Meeting in Orlando on May 23, investigators found that study participants reported statistically significant improvement in both their physical and mental well-being six weeks following the mild procedure.
Doctors may one day treat some forms of blindness by altering the genetic program of the light-sensing cells of the eye, according to scientists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
