MorphoSys AG announced that it has received a milestone payment from Novartis in connection with the initiation of a clinical phase 1 trial with a novel HuCAL antibody. The antibody will be tested in the field of prevention of thrombosis. This is the twelfth therapeutic antibody based on MorphoSys's technologies that Novartis is evaluating in clinical trials. After endless debates and controversies on whether two studies that demonstrated how bird flu, also known as avian H5N1 influenza, or avian flu, should be published, one of them has appeared in the latest issue of the journal Nature in its entirety. The two studies aimed for publication in journals Nature and Science show how the bird flu virus could become transmissible from mammal-to-mammal; as humans are mammals, the same would apply to humans.
By analyzing the molecular details of how artificially created drug-resistant flu strains manage to survive treatment, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital scientists have developed insights to guide development of powerful new anti-influenza drugs. These compounds will target a viral enzyme critical to the virus' proliferation in the body.
