US HIFU, a world leader in minimally invasive high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) technologies and manufacturer of the Sonablate® 500 medical device, has announced its intention to fund a landmark multi-center trial to study focal therapy for localized prostate cancer. Mark Emberton, M.D., (FRCS-Urology), consultant urological surgeon and divisional clinical director of cancer services at University College London Hospital (UCLH), along with Hashim Uddin Ahmed, MRC clinical research fellow, will lead the trial.
Reacting to allegations of delays in care and mistreatment of patients, Secretary Eric Shinseki announces that some veterans will be able to use private clinics and hospitals. Meanwhile, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says officials must be held accountable. Sen. Blumenthal calls for an FBI probe.
A national study of older Americans shows those who have limited mobility and low physical activity - scientifically categorized as "frail" - are five times more likely to report that they often don't have enough to eat, defined as "food insufficiency," than older adults who were not frail.
