Study reveals improved process to obtain, store RNA from lung tumor biopsies

Analyzing the genes expressed by cancer cells allows for a better understanding of that patient's specific disease and in turn, a more personalized approach to treatment. But obtaining the RNA from a tumor in the lungs in order to conduct the genetic analysis is a challenging prospect. Currently, lung cancer researchers are limited to using RNA extracted from early-stage tumors removed during surgery. The small quantities of tissue extracted during routine diagnostic biopsies have not been useful to researchers, due to their small size and the variety of ways they have been processed.

EpiCept to receive $0.97M in public offering

EpiCept Corporation announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement with a single life science focused institutional investor for the purchase of 1,065 shares of its new Series B 0% Convertible Preferred Stock at $1,000 per share, which are convertible into an aggregate of approximately 6.3 million shares of its common stock, and five-year warrants to purchase up to approximately 3.1 million shares of its common stock at an exercise price of $0.17 per share that are immediately exercisable.
