Following the Global Health Summit in Uppsala (Sweden) on 2-3 June, 2015, DSM Sinochem Pharmaceuticals pledged its commitment to the WHO's ‘Call to Action' on antimicrobial resistance issued at the Summit. One of the biggest opportunities to maintain the effectiveness and availability of antibiotics is responsible waste management, to date a highly undervalued dimension in the debate around resistance. DSP promised to use its expertise and influence in this area to help curb antimicrobial resistance.
A new genetic substudy of PLATO showed that the effects on a combined primary endpoint of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or stroke seen in Acute Coronary Syndromes patients who received the investigational oral antiplatelet treatment, ticagrelor (BRILINTA), were maintained, whether or not they had the genetic variability that has been previously shown to affect a patient's response to clopidogrel.
The first step in treating cancer is understanding how it starts, grows and spreads throughout the body. A relatively new cancer research approach is the study of metabolites, the products of different steps in cancer cell metabolism, and how those substances interact.
A novel electronic sensor array for more rapid, accurate and cost-efficient testing of DNA for disease diagnosis and biological research has been developed by scientists at Singapore's Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN).
