Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center and VCU Institute of Molecular Medicine researchers have identified a gene that may play a pivotal role in two processes that are essential for tumor development, growth and progression to metastasis. Scientists hope the finding could lead to an effective therapy to target and inhibit the expression of this gene resulting in inhibition of cancer growth.
Emelia J. Benjamin, MD, ScM, FACC, FAHA, professor of medicine in the section of cardiovascular medicine at Boston University School of Medicine, is the recipient of the American Heart Association's 2016 Gold Heart Award.
Pharmaceutical companies are showing "greater accountability in the boardroom today over access to medicines, with more openness, targets and investment in drugs relevant to the poor," but they "show no evidence that they adequately supervise the conduct of outsourced clinical drug trials, according to a new analysis released on Wednesday," the Financial Times reports.
