Governments and international donors are falling short of their goals of providing antiretroviral drugs to HIV-positive people in developing countries who need them, according to a report released on Tuesday by the International Treatment Preparedness Coalition, the International Herald Tribune reports.
ARIAD Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that new data on AP24534, its investigational pan-BCR-ABL inhibitor, and ridaforolimus, its investigational mTOR inhibitor being developed by Merck, Sharpe & Dohme Corp., have been accepted for presentation at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting.
The accession of ten more central and east European countries to the European Union (EU) -15 in 2004 has created a single European market, the largest market and trading zone for the healthcare industry with almost 500 million consumers. The total healthcare industry comprising pharmaceuticals and drugs, medical devices and equipment, and health services is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.4 per cent from 2003 to 2008.
Reaching the Millennium Development Goal of "reducing by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015" likely will be reached, "but large numbers of people in the world's least developed regions will still not benefit," according to a report released Tuesday by UNICEF and the WHO, the U.N. News Centre reports.
The NHS in Coventry and Warwickshire is urging people to choose wisely if they need to use health services over Easter. A&E doctors at University Hospital, Walsgrave have faced spiralling numbers of patients in recent months. And health chiefs are keen to keep the traditional Bank Holiday surge to a minimum as the unit is now a major trauma centre, dealing with more life-threatening illnesses and injuries from much of the Midlands.
