GE Capital, Healthcare Financial Services announced today that it has provided, as sole lender, a $12.5 million senior secured multi-draw term loan facility to XDx, Inc. The financing provides XDx with working capital to expand the commercialization of its FDA-cleared, innovative, noninvasive AlloMap molecular diagnostic test and pursue the development of other gene expression-based tests for autoimmune diseases including lupus.
In a study titled "MicroRNA Modulation in Obesity and Periodontitis," lead author Romina Perri, University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, Oral Health Institute, conducted a pilot investigation to determine whether obesity or periodontal disease modified microRNA expression and whether there was any potential interaction between obesity and periodontitis that could involve microRNA modulation.
Scientists researching the causes and effects of hypoxia in Green Bay, part of Lake Michigan, Wisc., have been awarded $348,037 for the first year of an anticipated four-year $1,367,300 project through NOAA's Coastal Hypoxia Research Program. Hypoxia within Green Bay has been a problem for decades, and recent evidence suggests that it may be worsening, with the potential for "dead zones" and fish kills to become both more frequent and more extensive with a changing climate.
VSO and the UK government (DfID) have set up the ‘National Disaster Recovery Coordination Secretariat' (NDRCS) in Kathmandu. It aims to help rebuild Nepal, following the devastation of two earthquakes (25th April and 12th May 2015) which claimed nearly 9,000 lives and left hundreds of thousands people homeless.
