Diabetes is known to impair the cognitive health of people, but now scientists have identified one potential mechanism underlying these learning and memory problems.
For their unique Return to Work Lab which focuses on individualized rehabilitation for younger, more active cardiac patients, the Cardiac Rehabilitation program at the Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital was recently awarded the Innovation Award from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
It was a commendable decision -; and more unnerving than risky -; for Emory University to accept into its hospital two Americans who contracted the deadly Ebola virus while doing humanitarian work in Africa.
A new study from the Forsyth Institute is helping to shed more light on the important connection between the mouth and heart. According to research recently published online by the American Heart Association, scientists at Forsyth and Boston University have demonstrated that using an oral topical remedy to reduce inflammation associated with periodontitis, more commonly known as gum disease, also results in the prevention of vascular inflammation and can lower the risk of heart attack.
In the most inclusive study to date on friendship, Chapman University research looks at gender, age, and sexual orientation differences in the number of friends people rely on for support, to what extent they choose friends of the same gender, and overall life satisfaction.
