U.S. health officials say the rate has dropped by half since the 1990s. The decline may be related to a growth in needle exchange programs. Published in the journal PLOS ONE, the study showed that tackling unhealthy lifestyle factors would provide the greatest benefit in increasing life expectancy among those with SMI.
The Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) says the new lowered exercise guidelines released today by the Public Health Agency of Canada represent minimums for a sedentary population, and will therefore not be applicable to all Canadians. Guidelines for exercise targets for Canadians should be based on health characteristics including health status and current activity levels.
Since vaccines protect not only those who take them, but also the people who otherwise could have been infected, there are many plausible motives for choosing to get vaccinated.
A new study published on the preprint server bioRxiv* in August 2020 shows that the man-made compound silicon nitride, which is used in medical implants and high mechanical performance engineering applications, is capable of inactivating severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) at varying concentrations without causing cell cytotoxicity. This finding should be investigated to develop disinfectants to clear the virus from surfaces, preventing its spread.
