Women who faced everyday work stress were particularly vulnerable to symptoms of anxiety and increased alcohol consumption following the Sept. 11 terrorist attack, according to a new study published by psychiatric researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
The Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC) today announced that it has expanded its clinical research network to include Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center (Dallas, TX), Sarah Cannon /Research Institute (SCRI, Nashville, TN) and Virginia Cancer Specialists (Fairfax, VA). These new centers join the 13 existing MMRC Member Institutions in promoting and facilitating collaborative research and accelerating drug development in multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer.
L-3 Communications announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Insight Technology Incorporated. Insight develops and manufactures mission critical night vision and electro-optical equipment including laser aiming and illumination devices, laser rangefinders, laser markers and designators, night vision goggles and monoculars, and thermal imaging systems.
A team of engineers from the CEIT-IK4 technological centre and doctors from the University Hospital of Navarra have designed a new tool for operating on the inner ear with maximum precision, reducing the possibility of damage to the auditory function during the surgery. This is the first micromanipulator specifically for operations involving cochlear and middle ear implants, of which about a hundred are carried out in this hospital annually. Taking part in developing the new tool were four engineers from CEIT and five ear, nose and throat specialists from the University Hospital of Navarra.
