The U.S. health-care system is vastly overspending for a single anemia drug because Medicare overestimates its use by hundreds of millions of dollars a year, according to an analysis of federal data. The overpayment to hospitals and clinics arises because Medicare reimburses them based on estimates rather than the actual use of the drug.
NPR Morning Edition host Renee Montagne on Thursday spoke with Alex Thier, who oversees USAID projects in Afghanistan, about the "tremendous efforts that have been made to improve medical care in the country over the last decade," noting, "A new survey shows stunning progress in medical care in the war-torn country."
The nation's leader in hybrid concierge medicine, Concierge Choice Physicians, has introduced the first targeted and viable concierge program for non-invasive cardiologists who also provide other internal medicine services to patients. Called Concierge Choice Cardiology, the new program employs the CCP hybrid model to offset many of the economic and professional challenges that recent changes in reimbursement rates have created.
From the survey 13% men and 6% women were found infected. These results show that men are twice more likely to test positive for this infection than women. Further findings show that 13% men had unprotected sex with more than one partner over the last 5 years making them more prone to this infection. Only 7% women displayed such risky sexual behavior.
PTC Therapeutics, Inc., the SMA Foundation, and Roche, announced today that their joint research program in Spinal Muscular Atrophy has entered the first stage of clinical development aiming to assess safety and tolerability of an oral compound in healthy volunteers.
