Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center has received a $12 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to conduct the first clinical trial to determine the medication of choice for preventing migraines in children and teens.
Tinnitus is the most common service-related disability for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Often described as a ringing in the ears, more than 1.5 million former service members, one out of every two combat veterans, report having this sometimes debilitating condition, resulting in more than $2 billion dollars in annual disability payments by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
The pigment melanin, which is responsible for skin and hair color in mammals, is produced in specialized cells called melanocytes and then distributed to other cells. But not every cell in the complex layers of skin becomes pigmented.
Results presented recently at the 6th Annual Conference of the International Society of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity in Oslo, Norway, and soon to be published in the International Journal of Obesity reveal that 95 per cent of Australian adults are not meeting national physical activity and nutrition guidelines for health benefits.
The key to control any pandemic is early identification and rapid response.
