A vaccine for HER2-positive breast cancers that is being tested in a clinical trial at Duke Cancer Institute is part of an effective, two-drug strategy for enlisting the immune system to fight tumors, according to a Duke-led study in Clinical Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.
Australian researchers have found that people suffering with lower back pain can significantly reduce their pain and disability by learning to control their trunk muscles.
On Saturday, November 7, 2009 Vasamed Inc., provider of diagnostic technologies that detect peripheral arterial disease in patients with diabetes, will partner with the Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program (BBHOP) in its mission to help African Americans identify the connection between peripheral arterial disease (PAD), diabetes, obesity and hypertension through early detection and referral to appropriate medical resources.
In a randomised controlled trial, researchers in The Netherlands have found that the use of ultrasound-guided surgery to remove tumours from women who have palpable breast cancer is much more successful than standard surgery in excising all the cancerous tissue while sparing as much healthy tissue as possible.
Approximately 57.2 million people under the age of 65—more than one in five (22.4 percent) of America's non-elderly population—have a diagnosed pre-existing condition that could lead to a denial of coverage in the individual health insurance market, according to a report released today by the consumer health organization Families USA.
