In a preview of a Jan. 24 magazine article, The New York Times reports on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's struggle to keep members of his caucus in line on health reform. Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and Mead Johnson Nutrition Company announced today the final results of the offer by Bristol-Myers Squibb to exchange up to 170,000,000 shares of common stock of Mead Johnson for outstanding shares of Bristol-Myers Squibb common stock that were validly tendered and not validly withdrawn.
The Government of Québec announced today a $10 million investment in the Personalized Medicine Partnership for Cancer (PMPC).
Just last week, U.S. health authorities announced that autism is more common than previously thought. About 1 in 88 children in the United States have an autism spectrum disorder, according to the report. Autism spectrum disorders are developmental conditions associated with impaired social communication and repetitive behaviors or fixated interests. Diagnoses have risen 78% since 2000, partly because of greater awareness, and partly for reasons entirely unknown. Most medications don't help, and while some find improvements with intense (and expensive) behavioral therapy, there is no cure.
