Nurses at some institutions are serving up people's evening meals at 3pm – just because it is more convenient, inspectors found. Nurses arrive unannounced at elderly patients' bedsides and strap blood pressure monitors round their arms without telling them what they are doing.
A randomized clinical trial showed that combining Vitamin C and thiamine with standard steroid hydrocortisone did not improve the time of survival for patients with septic shock. The study titled, "Effect of Vitamin C, Hydrocortisone, and Thiamine vs Hydrocortisone Alone on Time Alive and Free of Vasopressor Support Among Patients With Septic Shock: The VITAMINS Randomized Clinical Trial," was published in the most recent issue of JAMA.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Poteligeo (mogamulizumab-kpkc) injection for intravenous use for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed or refractory mycosis fungoides or Sézary syndrome after at least one prior systemic therapy.
K.U.Leuven researchers Peter Carmeliet and Bart De Strooper have both been awarded Advanced Grants from the European Research Council. ERC Advanced Grants are the most prestigious European research grants, spanning a period of 5 years. Peter Carmeliet of the VIB Vesalius Research Centre, K.U.Leuven, will receive approximately 2.5 million euro for research focused on stopping the energy supply into blood vessels.
