Simulations Plus, Inc., a leading provider of consulting services and software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, today released preliminary revenues for its fourth fiscal quarter of fiscal year 2011, ended August 31, 2011 (4QFY11), and for the entire fiscal year 2011 (FY11).
"The world is facing two immediate health crises concerning drugs and vaccines: affordable and reliable access to life-sparing medicines and the safety and reliability of those medicines," Laurie Garrett, senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), writes in the council's Policy Innovation Memorandum No. 21, titled, "Ensuring the Safety and Integrity of the World's Drug, Vaccine, and Medicines Supply."
According to the latest study, taking some commonly prescribed painkillers for even a short while might increase the risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke. The study also reports that when heart attack survivors took the drugs for as little as a week, it appeared to boost their risk of another heart attack, stroke or sudden death. The results, published in Circulation, a journal of the American Heart Association, surprised even the researchers.
In this post in KPLU 88.5's "Humanosphere" blog, journalist Tom Murphy interviews reporter Jonathan Katz, "the first to break the story connecting U.N. peacekeepers from Nepal to the" cholera outbreak in Haiti.
Today, MedImmune announced that researchers will present data from its oncology portfolio, including new clinical data, at two upcoming medical congresses in Europe and the United States.
