Male fish mutating into females - A toxicological fallout from remnants of human medicines in the ecosystems

According to lead researcher in the field of ecotoxicology, human medicines that end up in the ecosystem are causing mutations in the male fish that mutate them into females. Professor Charles Tyler, fish physiologist and eco-toxicologist from Exeter University, has warned that more and more scientists should work on the exact impact of these drugs and chemicals on nature and marine animals.

Report highlights benefits of different access approach to treat uterine fibroids

Interventional radiologists have devised a new way to access a woman's fibroids-by flipping her wrist and treating via an arm not groin artery-to nonsurgically shrink noncancerous growths in the muscular wall of the uterus. Researchers found this to be less painful and traumatic for women, allowing them to immediately sit up and move after uterine fibroid embolization (UFE)-with no overnight stay, according to a March article in the Society of Interventional Radiology's flagship publication, the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.

Less physical activity for infants below one year of age may lead to more fat accumulation which in turn may predispose them to obesity later in life, suggests a study led by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
