VAL-083 drug compound shows promise against non-small cell lung cancer

Study suggests new path to make protective malaria vaccine

This study suggests that genetically engineered malaria parasites that are stunted through precise gene deletions (genetically attenuated parasites, or "GAP") could be used as a vaccine that protects against malaria infection. This means that the harmless (attenuated) version of the parasite would interact with the body in the same way as the infective version, but without possibility of causing disease.

DEK gene present in plasma can help predict outcomes for patients with head and neck cancer

Researchers at the University of Cincinnati have discovered that a human cancer-causing gene, called DEK, can be detected in the plasma of head and neck cancer patients. DEK may help doctors understand how a person's immune system could be used to treat cancer or predict outcomes for patients.

Oncology trial RTOG 0232 comparing a combined treatment of external beam therapy and brachytherapy to transperineal interstitial permanent brachytherapy alone indicate a significantly different clinician and patient-reported late toxicity profile between arms despite similarities in progression-free survival results.
