CMS issues split decision on Arkansas Medicaid waiver

The Trump administration on Monday approved Arkansas' request for a Medicaid work requirement but deferred a decision on the state's request to roll back its Medicaid expansion that has added 300,000 adults to the program.

Intuit acquires NC-based company, Medfusion

Intuit Inc. has completed its acquisition of privately held Medfusion, a Cary, N.C. based leader in patient-to-provider communications. The cash transaction, announced May 10, is valued at approximately $91 million.

Even with new medical schools opening, shortages mar workforce

Nearly two dozen medical schools have recently opened or may open across America, "the most at any time since the 1960s and '70s," The New York Times reports. These new institutions "are seeking to address an imbalance in American medicine that has been growing for a quarter century. Many bright students were fleeing to offshore medical schools, or giving up hope entirely, when they could not get into domestic schools. Meanwhile, American hospitals were using foreign-trained and foreign-born physicians to fill medical residencies. During the 1980s and '90s only one new medical school was established."

In a genome-wide analysis of 13 metastatic prostate cancers, scientists at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center found consistent epigenetic "signatures" across all metastatic tumors in each patient.
