Environmental health groups call for ban on BPA from all food applications

Environmental health advocates responded to today's announcement that Food and Drug Administration concurs with the National Toxicology Program's assessment that bisphenol A is a chemical of concern. FDA posted tips for parents to minimize children's exposure, and announced further research. BPA is a synthetic sex hormone linked to cancer, behavioral changes, reproductive harm, heart problems and other illnesses.

CHI creates new academic medical center on Bergan Mercy Medical Center campus

The Network Board of Directors for Alegent Creighton Health/Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) voted today to move forward with creating a new academic medical center on the Bergan Mercy Medical Center campus, complete with a Level One trauma program. The move will take two to three years and require an investment of $145-$157 million.

Xencor's initiation of novel monoclonal antibody human clinical trial triggers milestone payment from Pfizer

Xencor, Inc., a company using Fc engineering for the discovery and development of next-generation antibodies, announced today that the Company received a milestone payment from Pfizer Inc. The amount of the payment was not disclosed. The payment was triggered by the initiation of human clinical trials of a novel monoclonal antibody therapeutic that was optimized using Xencor technologies under a March 2009 technology license agreement.
