EMA, FDA announce regulatory decisions on Avandia drug

GlaxoSmithKline confirms that following a review of Avandia (rosiglitazone maleate) by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), each agency has today announced their individual regulatory decisions and the resulting actions.

New lung cancer drug starts human trials

A new drug for lung cancer is being tried by researchers at Oxford. The treatment, which halts the growth of cancer cells, is being trialed on those patients who have stopped responding to chemotherapy. The trial is one of the first to go ahead at the Oxford Cancer Research Centre.

Fifth patient dosed in Benitec's TT-034 Phase I/IIa clinical trial for prevention of HCV infection

Benitec Biopharma, a biopharmaceutical company focused on providing potentially curative therapies with its proprietary gene-silencing technology called ddRNAi or "expressed RNAi," is pleased to advise that the fifth patient in the company's 'first in man', Phase I/IIa dose escalation clinical trial of TT-034 for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, has today, been dosed at the Duke Clinical Research Unit.

Japan provides $2.6M to UNICEF to aid Pakistan's polio eradication program

"The Government of Japan has extended a grant of 226 million Japanese Yen (approximately US$2.62 million) to Pakistan through UNICEF for supporting the polio eradication program in Pakistan," Agence France-Presse/Dawn.com reports.
