HHS honors Children's Hospital Los Angeles for excellence in organ donation

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is honoring Children's Hospital Los Angeles for its commitment to saving lives through organ and tissue donation. The hospital will receive the Silver Medal of Honor today for excellence in organ donation at the 7th National Learning Congress for the Donation and Transplantation Community of Practice in Grapevine, Tex.

U.S. District Court rules in favor of Illumina over Helicos lawsuit

Illumina, Inc. announced today that District Judge Sue L. Robinson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware granted Illumina's motion for summary judgment of invalidity of U.S. Patent No. 7,593,109, a patent asserted by Helicos BioSciences Corporation in a lawsuit filed against Illumina in October 2010. Judge Robinson ruled that the '109 patent was invalid for inadequate written description.

MFSI awarded series of new patents for identifying air-borne pathogens

Microfluidic Systems, a privately-held company, announced today it has been awarded a series of new patents covering both the components and integrated systems that perform fully automated sample collection through identification of air-borne pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and toxins. Patent number 7,705,739 entitled "Integrated Airborne Substance Collection and Detection System" covers a combined instrument in which a detect-to-warn component is integrated with a detect-to-treat system.
