Researchers show restoration of medical records via satellite link for disaster medical support

The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Kochi Health Science Center and collaborating teams have developed a secure data backup system in an 800 km network connecting the data servers in Kochi, Osaka, Nagoya, Otemachi and Koganei, Japan, using secret sharing and secure communications technologies, and demonstrated distributed storage of medical records and prompt restoration of important items, such as prescription records and allergy information, via a satellite link within a time as short as 9 sec.

Enzon Pharmaceuticals initiates treatment in PEG-SN38 Phase 1 study for pediatric cancer patients

Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that the first patient has been treated in the Phase 1 study of PEG-SN38 for pediatric cancer patients. PEG-SN38 or EZN-2208 is Enzon's PEGylated form of SN38, the active metabolite of the cancer drug Camptosar® (irinotecan HCl injection). The study is designed to find the recommended dose of PEG-SN38 in pediatric patients. The PEG-SN38 compound is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 studies for metastatic colorectal and breast cancer.

The adult smoking rate was 20.6% in 2009, the same as a year earlier and largely unchanged since 2004, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."
