Sleep experts believe that sleep deprivation and inadequate sleep is becoming frightfully common and it can be bad for health in more ways than one. According to Harvard School of Medicine's Healthy Sleep site there is a real link between chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease and depression and chronic lack of sleep.
Researchers at King's College London have found no significant link between eating the evening meal after 8pm and excess weight in children, according to a paper published this month in the British Journal of Nutrition.
"The ruling this week by Australia's high court to uphold its government's right to introduce 'plain packaging' for tobacco products is a landmark event for global health," John Seffrin, CEO of the American Cancer Society, writes in this Health-e opinion piece.
A recent study by biological engineers at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, demonstrated a significant advancement in the preservation of particular types of medicines, known as protein expression systems, for field applications - enabling those medicines to be stored and reconstituted on site in adverse conditions.
Based on their observations, the scientists deduced that lymph node location influences the maturation process of the cells they contain. "The cells retained their original skills for weeks following the transplant," says Dr. Sascha Cording, one of the study's first authors. "You might say lymph nodes have something like a location-specific memory."
