Abraxis BioScience, Inc., a fully integrated biotechnology company, today announced that the Office of Orphan Products Development of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted orphan drug designation to the chemotherapy agent ABRAXANE® for Injectable Suspension (paclitaxel protein-bound particles for injectable suspension) (albumin-bound) for the treatment of pancreatic cancer as well as stage IIB-IV melanoma.

Mylan Inc. today announced that its subsidiary Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. has received final approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Promethazine Hydrochloride (HCl) Tablets USP, 12.5 mg, 25 mg and 50 mg. University of Melbourne's Dr Dora Pearce is urging for more testing of soil and water in central Victoria's Goldfields region to address the possible threat of cancer caused by arsenic.
