MedPro Safety Products, Inc., a leading developer of transformational technologies that enable safer medication delivery and blood collection systems, has purchased product development rights for a unique, fully passive Insulin Guard self-injector from Visual Connections, owned by Hooman Asbaghi. Researchers at UCLA have identified a novel molecule in the brain that, after stroke, blocks the formation of new connections between neurons. As a result, it limits the brain's recovery. In a mouse model, the researchers showed that blocking this molecule-called ephrin-A5-induces axonal sprouting, that is, the growth of new connections between the brain's neurons, or cells, and as a result promotes functional recovery.
Prolonged exposure to loud noise alters how the brain processes speech, potentially increasing the difficulty in distinguishing speech sounds, according to neuroscientists at The University of Texas at Dallas.
