The National Fibromyalgia Association has partnered with RemedyMD® to provide a national database that will aggregate data from a wide variety of sources to provide a complete disease registry for fibromyalgia research. It offers new hope to sufferers since this will represent the first time that researchers have the opportunity to look at all data relevant to fibromyalgia in order to identify patterns which lead to more effective diagnosis and treatment.
Acute inflammation of the lung is a poorly recognized human disease that develops in surprising and unexpected ways. The acute lung injury (ALI) or adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a vital new concern for soldiers, but it can develop in anyone during a systemic infection, after severe trauma, as a result of bone fracture, following severe burns and in many other ways as well- the initial cause may have nothing apparent to do with the lung itself.
Until now, patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction – the most common type of heart failure in the elderly – have had no access to evidenced-based treatments. For the first time, a large clinical trial led by Prof. Dr. Stefan Anker from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin has identified a drug which has a distinctly positive effect on prognosis. In patients affected by this type of heart failure, the drug – empagliflozin – reduces the risk of hospitalization or cardiovascular death by 21 percent. The results of this research have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
