TWO THIRDS of Hodgkin's lymphoma patients treated with an experimental radioactive cancer therapy responded well to the treatment, reveal the results of a Cancer Research UK phase I trial published in Clinical Cancer Research, today (Tuesday).
UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers have provided the most extensive account to date of the unique observable characteristics seen in patients with an extremely rare premature aging syndrome.
The study, which was led by experts at the University of Nottingham, with collaborators from City, University of London and De Montfort Universities, and was funded by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, looked at six geographical areas in England.
U.S. researchers have found that nicotine in cigarettes may be responsible for serious complications in smokers with diabetes. They have shown that nicotine is strongly linked to persistently raised blood sugar levels among diabetics and scientists say they should make every effort to quit. There may also be implications for diabetics attempting to give up the habit who use nicotine-replacement therapy for extended periods.
