The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is today warning consumers about a counterfeit and potentially harmful version of Alli 60 mg capsules (120 count refill kit).
A new UCLA AIDS Institute study suggests that the use of social networking websites by homeless youth can lead to an increase in risky sexual behaviors. But interestingly, homeless kids who used these sites were also more likely to have been tested for sexually transmitted infections and to be better informed about preventing such infections and HIV.
Last year, Sally (a patient suffering from end stage liver failure) was in need of life flight transportation to be evaluated for a liver transplant. Her doctors told her she needed to receive the evaluation in order to get on the transplant list. Travel by ground ambulance or commercial flight were not an option due to her condition. Her health insurance company told her they would not cover the air ambulance medical transport. But last week, after four appeals and countless hours of work by Angel MedFlight's patient advocates, that decision was reversed.
A review by the GLUTEN3S research group at the UPV/EHU-University of the Basque Country describes the nutritional imbalances found in adults suffering from celiac disease who follow a gluten-free diet. The keys to avoiding possible problems among these patients are proper monitoring and good nutritional education, to ensure a diet that is not only gluten-free but well-balanced also.
