Arrhythmia Alliance, the Heart Rhythm Charity, announced today the results of a survey conducted in Europe that showed a large number of respondents ignore basic measures to check for potential cardiac arrhythmias, or heart rhythm disorders. To raise awareness of the importance of pulse checking and to inform people about how to take their pulse, the Arrhythmia Alliance will open 2010 World Heart Rhythm Week (7-13 June) with the launch of the global awareness campaign 'Know Your Pulse'.
Results from qualitative research of postmenopausal women with vulvar and vaginal atrophy (VVA) show that they recognize the significant physical, emotional and psychological consequences of untreated dyspareunia (painful sex) yet they continue to suffer because of misperceptions about the condition and a general lack of understanding about treatment options.
A blood test to diagnose which heart attack survivors will suffer heart failure is the goal of a new five-year, $11.6 million contract to the UT Health Science Center San Antonio from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).
Scientists at The Scripps Research Institute have found a way to change leukemia cells into leukemia-killing immune cells. The surprise finding could lead to a powerful new therapy for leukemia and possibly other cancers.
Substance use disorders don't discriminate. In fact, anyone can have a problem with prescription medication, alcohol, or illicit drugs—including adults aged 55 and older.
