One University of Texas at Arlington researcher is working to understand the relationship between cardiovascular disease and depression in a National Institutes of Health-funded project.
The Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC) today announced that it has expanded its clinical research network to include Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center (Dallas, TX), Sarah Cannon /Research Institute (SCRI, Nashville, TN) and Virginia Cancer Specialists (Fairfax, VA). These new centers join the 13 existing MMRC Member Institutions in promoting and facilitating collaborative research and accelerating drug development in multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer.
Associated Press/CNBC: "A veteran Wyoming state senator for the third time is pushing a bill he says would offer health insurance to people who couldn't afford it on the open market and also serve as an example to the rest of the nation of how to tackle rising health care costs. Sen. Charles Scott, R-Casper, has proposed a pilot program that calls for allowing 500 participants to enroll in Medicaid beginning in July. It would be limited to people whose family income is below 250 percent of the federal poverty level — $55,125 for a family of four.
The Wall Street Journal/Dow Jones Newswires reports on reaction to the Obama administration's proposed cuts that may acutely affect hospitals. It notes: "President Obama last weekend called for $313 billion in savings over 10 years through adjustments in Medicare and Medicaid payments - a plan that a 'deeply disappointed' American Hospital Association said would mean $220 billion in payment cuts to hospitals, on top of billions in other proposed Medicare cuts."
