BioSpecifics Technologies Corp., a biopharmaceutical company developing first in class collagenase-based products marketed as XIAFLEX in the U.S. and XIAPEX in the EU, today announced that its partner Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has dosed the first patient in its Phase 2b study of collagenase clostridium histolyticum for the treatment of frozen shoulder syndrome (adhesive capsulitis).
The University of Illinois at Chicago received $8.2 million from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism to continue the Center for Alcohol Research in Epigenetics and its research on how alcohol affects genes through epigenetics - chemical changes to DNA, RNA or proteins that alter the expression of genes without directly modifying them.
A team of scientists from Sweden and India has recently conducted a study to evaluate type I interferon (IFN-I) responses in cells infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The findings reveal that SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with a delayed and dysregulated IFN-I response and that pretreatment with IFN-I can reduce the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
