Infants exposed to a diverse range of bacterial species in house dust during the first year of life appear to be less likely to develop asthma in early childhood, according to a new study published online on June 6, 2014, in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
A team from the University of Valencia, the La Fe Hospital Health Research Institute, and the INCLIVA Institute have participated in the identification of an enzyme (G6PD) as a possible therapeutic target in autoimmune diseases or in controlling exacerbated inflammatory responses such as the one caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection.
In this post in Management Sciences for Health's (MSH) "Global Health Impact" blog, Crystal Lander, director of policy and advocacy at MSH, recaps speeches made by global leaders at last week's International Conference on Family Planning in Dakar, Senegal, and the International Conference on HIV and STIs in Africa (ICASA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, this week, having attended both events.
Recent research has warned of the health detriments associated with sitting for long stretches of time at the office, but what about the nearly half of all employees worldwide who are required to stand for more than 75% of their workdays? Prolonged standing is associated with short-term adverse health issues, including reports of fatigue, leg cramps, and backaches, which can affect job performance and cause significant discomfort.
Today's headlines include reports about the political ads and positions being inspired by the Ryan budget plan.
