Patheon Inc., a leading provider of contract development and manufacturing services to the global pharmaceutical industry, announced today its results for the fourth quarter and full year ended October 31, 2010. Revenues for the fourth quarter were $177.7 million or 0.9 percent higher than the same period last year. Excluding currency fluctuations, current year fourth quarter revenues would have increased by approximately 5.0 percent versus the same period last year.
Integra LifeSciences announced today the U.S. commercial launch of Integra Spine's Paramount® Pedicle Screw (PS) Fixation System for minimally invasive spine surgery. The New York Times reports on a new approach to getting patients to take their medications consistently: financial incentives. "One-third to one-half of all patients do not take medication as prescribed, and up to one-quarter never fill prescriptions at all, experts say. Such lapses fuel more than $100 billion dollars in health costs annually because those patients often get sicker. Now, a controversial, and seemingly counterintuitive, effort to tackle the problem is gaining ground: paying people money to take medicine or to comply with prescribed treatment."
