A recent study published in The Journal of Pediatrics is the first to examine and identify a link between kidney stones in children and thickened or hardened arteries — precursors to a wide variety of cardiovascular diseases. Understanding the connection between kidney stones and cardiovascular risk factors in children may help physicians and parents implement prevention measures to reduce future risk of stroke, heart attack or other forms of vascular disease for affected children.

Volunteers underwent fMRI scans while performing an emotion-word Stroop task. Participants with tendencies towards insecure attachment demonstrated more activity in the right orbitofrontal cortex and superior frontal gyrus for unpleasant words, suggesting that insecure attachment may involve intense reactions to negative words.

The Roche assay for the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus detects RNA from the 2009 H1N1 Influenza A virus and provides a rapid means of identification of patients infected with this virus. In order to ensure continued specificity and sensitivity of the Roche's Influenza A/H1N1 assay, Roche performs sequence comparisons with all available 2009 H1N1 Influenza Virus sequences on a regular basis.
