Women without HOXA13 gene mutation need not be subjected to X-rays

Hugh S. Taylor, M.D., professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at Yale, and colleagues have found that women without mutations of the HOXA13 gene do not need to be subjected to x-rays and other tests for a rare condition called hand-foot genital syndrome. The research is presented at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) scientific meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, October 17-21.

Tarsa completes enrollment in Phase III ORACAL trial for postmenopausal osteoporosis

Tarsa Therapeutics, Inc. today announced progress in the ORACAL trial of its oral calcitonin product for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. The company has completed patient enrollment in this multinational, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase III trial designed to enroll approximately 550 patients. In addition, Tarsa announced that the independent Data Monitoring Committee (DMC) for the ORACAL trial has completed two separate safety reviews of patient data and recommended that the trial proceed as planned.

In a survey of 200 patients and their representatives, clinicians and other healthcare professionals (librarians and IT staff) from across eight NHS trusts, Professor Ann Blandford and Professor Peter Lunt have looked at the growing need to understand how digitisation of health information will impact upon patients, staff and managers across the health service.

Maternal anxiety increases child's risk for ADHD

A large study has shown that children of mothers who are anxious during pregnancy and in the first few years of the child's life have twice the risk of having hyperactivity symptoms at age 16. This work is being presented for the first time at the ECNP Congress in Copenhagen.
