Pancreatic cancer death rates in the European Union have increased by 5% between 1990 and 2016, a report launched today reveals. This is the highest increase in any of the EU's top five cancer killers which, as well as pancreatic cancer, includes lung, colorectal, breast and prostate cancer.
A new Mayo Clinic study suggests that removing the entire kidney from younger patients with small kidney tumors may lead to decreased overall survival compared with an operation that removes the tumor but leaves the kidney intact.
Nile Therapeutics, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of novel therapeutics for cardiovascular disease, today announced that it has completed the dosing of the last patient in NIL-CDNP-CT005, an open-label, single-blind, placebo-controlled Phase II study of CD-NP in patients with acute decompensated heart failure, or ADHF. The study was designed to provide additional information on the safety and tolerability of CD-NP when infused for up to 72 hours in patients with ADHF and mild to moderate renal insufficiency.
In a first of its kind study, researchers have found that using two way audio-video telemedicine to deliver stroke care, also known as telestroke, appears to be cost-effective for rural hospitals that don't have an around-the-clock neurologist, or stroke expert, on staff.
