Researchers in the Blue Bird Circle Developmental Neurogenetics Laboratory in the department of neurology at Baylor College of Medicine have discovered that zinc enters cells through specialized protein gates known as ZIP transporters, and removing these ZIP proteins from cells in the hippocampus significantly protects them from injury.
The Center for Resilient Design at New Jersey Institute of Technology, part of the university's College of Architecture and Design, has received a two-year grant from the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium to develop ways to protect ecosystems and their surrounding communities from flood waters.
Neuropathic pain - pain that results from a malfunction in the nervous system - is a daily reality for millions of Americans.
