Warner Chilcott plc (Nasdaq: WCRX) today announced that the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved LO LOESTRIN FE (norethindrone acetate and ethinyl estradiol tablets, ethinyl estradiol tablets and ferrous fumarate tablets) for the prevention of pregnancy.
The U.S. government's Medicare program has ordered three health insurers Universal American Corp. (UAM), Health Net Inc. (HNT) and Arcadian Health to stop marketing to and enrolling new members in their Medicare Advantage health and prescription-drug plans, saying the companies violated regulations.
Hospitals are placing higher restrictions on their visitation policies due to the threat of H1N1. While this helps reduce exposure to the virus, it also means that patients will see less of their family and friends, increasing their feeling of isolation.
Union workers have overwhelmingly ratified a new three-year contract that averted a strike at eight Twin Cities hospitals. The union represents 3,500 nursing assistants, technicians and support staff. The agreement was reached last week after union members voted to authorize a 2- to 5-day strike. The union says the new contract holds back on increases in health benefit premiums, retains overtime benefits and includes small wage increases.
