Enanta Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a research and development-focused biotechnology company dedicated to creating small molecule drugs in the infectious disease field, announced today that new Phase 2b data related to ABT-450, Enanta's lead HCV protease inhibitor identified in its ongoing collaboration with AbbVie, as well as new preclinical data on Enanta's proprietary cyclophilin inhibitor, EDP-546, will be presented at the International Liver Congress, which is the 48th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of the Liver taking place in Amsterdam April 24-28, 2013.
Ovarian cancer is one of the most frequent forms of cancer that affect women. As tumors can initially grow unchecked in the abdomen without causing any major symptoms, patients are usually diagnosed at an advanced stage and have to undergo surgery plus chemotherapy. During the operation, surgeons attempt to remove all tumor deposits as this leads to improved patient prognosis. To do this, however, they primarily have to rely on visual inspection and palpation - an enormous challenge especially in the case of small tumor nests or remaining tumor borders after the primary tumor excision.
Celera Corporation today announced that it has submitted a Premarket Approval Application (PMA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its KIF6 Genotyping Assay, a new molecular In Vitro diagnostic (IVD) test designed to detect a marker for risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) independent of traditional risk factors and aid clinical evaluation when statin treatment is being considered.
Spectrum Health will be the first health system in West Michigan and among the first in the nation to offer treatment with a newly FDA-approved device that uses electric stimulation of the brain for adult epilepsy patients whose seizures have not responded to medication.
