According to the reports of a recent inquiry, inspectors looking at aged care homes in Australia over the last year have reported an alarming rise in missing residents, violence that was not reported and severe degrees of malnutrition among the residents.
A study by researchers in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) has uncovered a potential new target for the treatment of a range of intestinal diseases that are associated with diarrhoea. Current medications are often ineffective and can have serious side effects so this discovery gives hope for the development of new treatments for sufferers of intestinal disease.
Gentel Biosciences, a leader in proteomics discovery tools, today announced the availability of the APiX View Detection Kits for ultra-sensitive chromogenic detection of protein microarrays, including reverse phase protein such as SomaPlex arrays from Protein Biotechnologies.
When the intestines are not able to properly process our diet, a variety of disorders can develop, with chronic diarrhea as a common symptom. Chronic diarrhea can also be inherited, most commonly through conditions with genetic components such as irritable bowel syndrome. Researchers in Norway, India, and at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology have identified one heritable DNA mutation that leads to chronic diarrhea and bowel inflammation.
