Many lung cancers are driven by mutations in the epidermal growth-factor receptor (EGFR), and so it makes sense that many successful modern treatments block EGFR activity. Unfortunately, cancers inevitably evolve around EGFR inhibition, and patients with lung cancers eventually relapse.
Scientists from the University of Nottingham have discovered that drinking a cup of coffee can stimulate 'brown fat', the body's own fat-fighting defenses, which could be the key to tackling obesity and diabetes.
Data from multiple clinical trials of the world's first pro-healing stent, OrbusNeich's Genous Bio-engineered R stent, and preclinical data from Combo Bio-engineered Sirolimus Eluting Stent will be presented next week at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics symposium, TCT 2009, in San Francisco.
"Surrounded by Sudan, Chad and Congo where more high-profile crises are taking place, [the Central African Republic's (CAR)] dire and desperate health situation - in which few people have access to health care and many die of easily treatable diseases - has received little attention and even less assistance," writes Unni Karunakara, international president of Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), in an article on MSF's webpage.
