Affymax, Inc. and Takeda Global Research & Development Center, Inc., U.S., today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) accepted for review the New Drug Application (NDA) for peginesatide (formerly known as Hematide™) for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adult patients on dialysis.

Major grant expands regenerative rehabilitation research at Kessler Foundation

A major award by the Derfner Foundation expands the capacity of Kessler Foundation to conduct regenerative rehabilitation research aimed at developing new ways to restore function to people with disabilities caused by musculoskeletal and neurological injuries.

Health outcomes explored at DDW 2010

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which may soon be the leading indication for liver transplant, is found to be significantly associated with worse transplant outcomes. In addition, a new tool for diagnosing NAFLD represents an alternative to liver biopsy, which is more expensive and prone to complications, and ultrasound and alfafeprotein blood test screening are an effective alternative to CT scan and MRI for patients with cirrhosis at high risk for hepatocellular cancer.
