Many healthcare providers today try to avoid administering or prescribing opioid pain medications when possible because of the narcotics' addictive properties. But for some patients, opioid medications remain the most effective, most appropriate treatment for their subjective pain complaints.
In an in vitro study, led by Grace Gill, PhD, Tufts University School of Medicine, researchers discovered how a protein called SUMO (Small Ubiquitin-related Modifier) guides an enzyme complex that alters the structure of chromatin to regulate expression of genes.
The paper referred to in this article has been published in the European Journal of Public Health In summer, more dishes like gazpacho -a cold soup containing raw vegetables, bread, olive oil and vinegar- are consumed. A new study has revealed that gazpacho ingredients' vitamin C content as well as other organic acids is lower in the resulting mixture, meaning that it should be eaten immediately after preparation.
"A large number of high school athletes take the winter off and just go out and start throwing as hard as they can," said Matt Holland, a physical therapist with The Methodist Center for Sports Medicine in Houston. "The problem is that their arms are not in baseball shape and they open themselves up to serious shoulder and elbow injuries."
