Researchers of the TGF-beta and Cancer group of Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute, in collaboration with King's College London, have unveiled the role of NADPH oxidase NOX4 as an inhibitor of the epithelial-amoeboid transition, a process that contributes to the migration and invasion of tumor cells.
Researchers at the MedUni Vienna have demonstrated the possibility of using a blood test to detect depression. While blood tests for mental illnesses have until recently been regarded as impossible, a recent study clearly indicates that, in principle, depression can in fact be diagnosed in this way and this could become reality in the not too distant future.
The new research, which was published in the journal Demographic Research, shows that increasing labor force participation by as little as 1 or 2 percentage points could allow pension ages to be reduced by one year without increasing the burden on the working population.
Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced the completion of its previously-announced public offering and concurrent private placement of its common stock, resulting in net proceeds to Lexicon of approximately $181.4 million after the exercise in full by the underwriters of their over-allotment option and by Invus, L.P., Lexicon's largest stockholder, of its associated right to purchase additional shares.
Unicompartmental (or "partial") knee arthroplasty (UKA) is an alternative to total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for some patients with knee osteoarthritis. When UKA fails, conversion to TKA has been thought to be a reliable solution.
