Scientists at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) have devised a powerful set of chemical methods for exploring the biology of proteins.
Affymetrix, Inc. today announced the launch of the Affymetrix® MIP Copy Number Service, designed for cancer researchers using challenging FFPE samples. With the MIP Copy Number Service, scientists can now obtain high-quality allele-specific copy number data from FFPE samples. The service is available for research use only exclusively through the Affymetrix® Research Services Laboratory (ARSL).
Deep-brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus may help to restore long-term potentiation-like plasticity in the motor cortex of patients with Parkinson's disease, a study shows.
The Wall Street Journal examines the use of the African giant pouched rat to detect tuberculosis (TB) in lab samples. A study published online in the Pan African Medical Journal last month found the rats are "better than human lab techs at identifying TB bacteria in a dollop of mucus," a finding that "holds promise for diagnosing tuberculosis in sub-Saharan Africa," according to the newspaper.
