The manufacturer of the experimental Ebola drug ZMapp says it has put other business on hold since August to boost production of the medication. Meanwhile, news outlets look at the government's authority to screen airline travelers, the House action to release additional funding for disease-fighting efforts and the Dallas hospital's defense of its treatment of the West African man who died of the disease this week.
In this post in Huffington Post's "Healthy Living" blog, John-Manuel Andriote, a journalist and author living with HIV, asks, "For all of us living with HIV infection - Oct. 27 will mark seven years since my own diagnosis - the question we face daily, hopefully more consciously and deliberately than most, is how shall we live, knowing as we do that we will most assuredly die one day?"
Though therapies are in their nascent phase, sales of stem cell technologies are expected to show an annual increase of 16.2% over the 2010-2020 period, reaching an expected market value of nearly $1 billion, according to Kalorama Information's report, Stem Cell Therapeutics Markets.
"Half of the 340,000 deaths of women from pregnancy-related causes each year occur in Africa, almost all in anonymity," the New York Times writes in an article profiling several cases of women who have died during childbirth in Ugandan hospitals.
A team of scientists from the Washington University School of Medicine and the University of Texas Medical Branch, USA, has recently evaluated the durability and robustness of an adenovirus-vectored, spike-based intranasal COVID-19 vaccine in mice.
